Eminem is putting the entertainer back into his job title–free shows/free tickets

May 19, 2009

I have blogged about Eminem before, as a way to show solidarity for Michigan artists, and while I first resisted the urge to blog about him taking 200 laid-off auto workers to a Jimmy Kimmel show, I had to take it down a notch when I heard he was giving away concert tickets.  Then I had to shackle my cynicism as I watched him actually give the tickets away for free.  I suppose if I followed my cynical heart, I would wait to see how the show played out, but I have to give Eminem points for taking action.

Eminem might be the least likely political activist that you would see enter any of the polished spheres of politik-speak, but I think he is starting to get some attention for his work in this scenario.  Eminem isn’t just talking–he’s doing something, which is more than I can say for Granholm.  (My own vitriolic reaction to her relates to her being the auto industry pimp…) But I will give Eminem credit here, because he is fully recognizing the impact this recession has had on people in Michigan, even if he does have an album coming out.   Thanks Eminem, for showing the others how it should be done.
