Rush Limbaugh Talks Circumcision And Jay

August 28, 2009

Somehow, in a link I can’t yet figure out, Rush Limbaugh addresses Jay-Z’s new rap hit’s mention of conservative pundits with commentary about President Obama and circumcision:

Limbaugh then elaborated on the reference to him in the lyric. “I would remind the rapper Jay-Z: Mr. Z, it is President Obama who wants mandated circumcision. That means if we need to save our penises from anybody, it’s Obama. I did not know I was on anybody’s b—s, either. I’m happy to know that they think I am, though.” The mention of Obama is in reference to the fact that the Center for Disease Control is considering recommending circumcision to high-risk men…”

Now I can’t figure out why Limbaugh is talking about circumcision, but it’s apparently in reference to Obama’s push to circumcise baby boys in this country.  Apparently Limbaugh, Jay-Z and President Obama need to read my latest post that talks about how CIRCUMCISION DOES NOT PREVENT HIV TRANSMISSION, for sure with anal intercourse.  (It appears that no one is interested in transmission to women with vaginal intercourse, but that’s another point…) So, why are they talking circumcsion?  Who the hell knows, but any time Jay-Z, Obama and Limbaugh are talking about whether or not to cut penile skin, I want to know more.  For the record, I am against any kind of routine circumcision (I have a few posts on the horror of seeing the results of circumcision.), but anytime others talk about it, I think it’s worth posting.

According to a NYTimes article, the CDC is considering recommending routine circumcision because it seems to protect men in Africa from getting HIV.  Apparently no one is worried about the women getting HIV from men, but for all of the world’s sake, let’s just focus on the men, okay?  I mean, really, if they are willing to cut their foreskin to try to protect themselves we should let them, right?  Well, except now what happens in Africa may somehow decide policy in America.  Logical step for the Obama administration, isn’t it?  I mean, he is African-American, right? Some officials aren’t completely behind the drive to mutilate a baby’s penis in the hope of “catching” that 4 % of the homosexual population before adulthood:

But they acknowledge that a circumcision drive in the United States would be unlikely to have a drastic impact: the procedure does not seem to protect those at greatest risk here, men who have sex with men.

Recently, studies showed that in African countries hit hard by AIDS, men who were circumcised reduced their infection risk by half. But the clinical trials in Africa focused on heterosexual men who are at risk of getting H.I.V. from infected female partners.

For now, the focus of public health officials in this country appears to be on making recommendations for newborns, a prevention strategy that would only pay off many years from now. Critics say it subjects baby boys to medically unnecessary surgery without their consent.

Hmm, cutting the foreskin without consent?  Done.  Cutting the foreskin and affecting a man’s sex life while he is still an infant and making it a government recommendation?  Not quite done. Starting political controversy with members of the conservative and liberal pundits:  Done.  Protecting women against HIV infection:  well, apparently the men aren’t even interested in that.
