YouTube – 2-25-2011 – Shouting “Shame!” on Wisconsin Assembly floor before “union-busting” budget bill vote.

According to news reports, the bill was passed through using trickery, and apparently the Republicans showed no shame:

Debate had gone on for 60 hours and 15 Democrats were still waiting to speak when the vote started around 1 a.m. Friday. Speaker Pro Tem Bill Kramer, R-Waukesha, opened the roll and closed it within seconds.

Democrats looked around, bewildered. Only 13 of the 38 Democratic members managed to vote in time.

Republicans immediately marched out of the chamber in single file. The Democrats rushed at them, pumping their fists and shouting “Shame!” and “Cowards!”

The Republicans walked past them without responding.

Wisconsin closed down the democratic process today by bumping protesters from the floor and approving a bill that takes away the rights of employees to join unions and utilize collective bargaining power, effectively removing the rights of the employees to represent them as groups in their fight for benefits.  Rachel Maddow has highlighted the conflict between campaign contributions to the Republican party and the move in multiple states now to remove union bargaining power, the unions which supported the Democratic party. (Unfortunately, I can’t get her video to load here, but check out the link above.)  Shepard Smith, who was reporting on Fox News, has also noticed this problem, and you can watch a commentary on Shep Smith’s performance below.
