North Americans as Pigs and Overconsumption: Black Friday Revolt “Buy Nothing Day”

December 12, 2012

I wondered why I hadn’t heard about this before, but apparently this group couldn’t buy advertising on any of the major news networks in the U.S.  In case you are wondering, we North Americans are portrayed an unflattering overconsumptive group that needs to be reigned in.  If this message did have any impact on the amount that most American consumers throw away, that alone would be helpful. The main premise is noble; however, telling people to be fair and share seems a doomed enterprise.  When resources are scarce, people go to war, not share everything they have.  Check out the Wal-Mart videos of Black Friday.
