Bristol Palin Is The Accidental Feminist? Pregnant, Single, Shooting A Gun and Bible-Quoting Bristol Style
I never thought I would call a Palin a feminist. Hell, Sarah Palin (I can never remember the spelling of her name, so forgive an oops as I write and call it a Freudian slip…) can’t make it through a sentence without tripping (see video link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ3LA4edVwk “What the media will do to all of us in 2016, it will take more than a village to be Hillary…”) but daughter Palin can be pregnant, shooting a gun, starkly single (oh the rebellion for the religious right to have a pregnancy as a single woman), and quoting scripture all at the same time.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come,” Sarah Palin‘s daughter, 24, wrote on Instagram, citing the Biblical passage of Proverbs 31:25, which focuses on the virtuous woman. Palin further captioned her update with gun, sunshine, and mountain emojis to illustrate her activity of the day.
Funnily enough, USMagazine, from which the above was quoted, didn’t mention Bristol Palin’s feminism, but Bristol is shooting out of her shell in a way that most right-wing Republican conservatives just don’t do.
Lest you assume that Bristol is, I don’t know, “happy” with being single, she has stated that she made a mistake in ordering her life, i.e. having sex before marriage that resulted in pregnancy, which happens to be the second time for such an opportunity if one categorizes such actions as mistakes:
“I made a mistake, but it’s not the mistake all these giddy a$$holes have loved to assume,” she told her readers. “This pregnancy was actually planned. Everyone knows I wanted more kids, to have a bigger family. Believing I was heading that way, I got ahead of myself. Things didn’t go as planned, but life keeps going. Life moves on.”
But really, how many other right-wing Republicans are getting knocked up and shooting guns while quoting Bible verses, just because they can? I haven’t found any, and so even though Bristol may not mean to be a feminist, it’s pretty evident that she is awfully good at flouting convention and getting talking about female sexuality in a way that most Republicans get squeamish to touch.
Bf Bristol is what the Republicans have for upcoming attractions, guess we are all in for a show. At least all Republicans don’t expect women to be married, pregnant or um… unpregnant? Tough to really get a feminist speech out in the same sentence as the word Republican, but we might be getting there, People, might be getting close.
